    Monday morning haiku

    Sick to my stomach.
A year of eating quite well
    toppled in one month.

SM and I have indulged in everything since the wedding, to our detriment. I think we've eaten more junk food in the past several weeks than we did in the past year. Seriously. And he's probably had more beer and wine, too.

And we're both suffering with stomachaches today. Bleh. So, I'm literally sick to my stomach, but also so disgusted with myself that I am just sick.

Back on the program in September.

Monday morning haiku (the "I'm back" version)

    First day back at work.
    The honeymoon is over.
    Yeah, literally.

    Monday morning haiku

    Weather-watch is on...
    No rain, low humidity
    Friday and Sunday!

YAYAYAYAYAY! Hopefully the humidity on Friday won't be such that my face slides off it. Yeah, I'll probably be wearing that. much. makeup.

It is a wedding after all.

    Monday morning haiku

I had several haiku in my head that expressed in explicit terms my feelings and how fed up I am today, but I decided it was better not to broadcast my general (and specific) state of malaise.. However, I just didn't have it in me to come up with something lyrical, funny or remotely interesting. So, rather than haiku anew, I'll leave it at that.

    The sky predicts rain.
    So does the weather report.
    I believe the sky.

    Monday morning haiku

    Time to celebrate
    the democratic ideals
    of this great nation.

And as hokey as that sounds, I mean it. We cannot allow political spin and rhethoric and loose use of words such as "democratic ideals" rob them of their real meaning.

(Can you tell I'm getting a little sick of the election season and the partisan bickering?)

    Monday morning haiku

    My stomach hurts me
so I called in sick today.
    So very tired.

I called in and left a message for my boss. Then I turned over and went back to sleep. And woke up at 2:00 in the afternoon. Oh my.

    Gonna hit 90
    Heat index of 100...
    But it's only June!

Help me, I'm melting! It's just plain gross here in DC.

    Showers everyday.
If not rain, then it's pollen.
    Both make me grumpy.

    Monday morning haiku

    Why today just sucks:
It’s Monday. Cold rain. Wet shoes.
    And fed-up with work.

That's my mood. You may not want to come near me or I could snap at you or growl or just generally grump in your direction.

    (Aren't I just lovely? Grrr....)

    What the heck was that?

Ouch! New pain, spasms. In my back?

    Officially old.

I've never had back pains and spasm before. This, combined with the news that I have borderline high cholesterol makes me feel officially old.

    Bleh.

Monday morning haiku, the evening edition

    A sunny morning,
The sun is still up at night...
    daylight savings time.

Yeah, pathetic... I know. Just wasn't inspired.

The other version of this was:

    A sunny morning,
    flowers, hay fever, taxes...
    It must be April.

    I wasn't at my most haiku-ish today.

    Monday morning haiku

    Rain, rain, go away.
    Come again another day...
    when I'm out of town.

Yup, flying the coop again this week. This time, it's for work, and we're off to sunny Scottsdale for a conference. I only go to one conference a year -- a conference that is, arguably, of only marginal use to my work (there are much more interesting and relevant conferences out there, but I don't get to go to them) -- and this is it. With the other attorney in the office and our division director.

    Wahoo?

Still, it will be fun. The division director loves good food, so we've got reservations every night at some really fantastic restaurant. It will kill my per diem and hurt generally. Ya' see, the division director is an SES, and the other attorney is a 15, high step (at least above a 5). I'm not. They both make more than twice what I make, so these meals are relatively twice as expensive for me. Oh well. I'll still enjoy the food. It's only once a year.

Most importantly, I'm excited to be out of the office for most of the week. Yay!

And it probably won't be raining in Scottsdale.
